What Would You Do? Finding a Moose in Your Idaho Yard
What would you do? What would you do if you got home from work, running errands, on vacation, or visiting someone and found a moose or a large wild animal waiting to greet you? Would you get out of your car? Would you pull into the driveway or keep going? Who would you call first? Would you take pictures? What would go through your head as you view this rare spectacle? Would it matter if it is standing and moving around, compared to laying in your yard comfortably, like a dog waiting for its owner? Living in Idaho this is a possibility to experience at some point, but if it happened to you what would you do?
Moose in Front Yard in Idaho
Recently, a homeowner in Idaho arrived home to be greeted not by their dog or cat, but instead by a moose waiting for their arrival. This is something that most would not expect to come home to, and likely took the homeowner by surprise. Many of us anticipate being greeted by a warm welcome from our pet after a long day at work, but a moose is not the animal that typically greets someone. If you pulled into your driveway and saw this, the best decision would be to not get out of your vehicle, but would you risk it to get inside your home, would you stay in the car, or would you drive elsewhere and hope it is gone when you return?
Wild Animals at Idaho Homes
While in the story above it was a moose that greeted the homeowner, would a different animal change your tactic on what to do? What if it was a bear? What if it was a deer? What about an elk? A deer or an elk is likely to be less aggressive, compared to a moose or bear, which would be a more dangerous situation. A deer or an elk might be more of an exciting moment and cause you to be thrilled, compared to a moose or bear which would make you more concerned and scared for your life. Does it matter if you are alone or with someone, or would you choose the same action either way? The most important thing is to remain safe in a situation like this.
You never hope to find a big large animal in your yard waiting for you, but when it is a less aggressive animal it isn't as threatening as a more aggressive one. If you find yourself in a situation like this, it is best to call Idaho Fish and Game. Not doing something can put your neighbors at risk, as the animal is still roaming the area. If you found yourself with a moose or large animal greeting you at home, what would you do?
