What would you do? What would you do if you were driving down the highway in Idaho, and a cow fell out of a trailer in front of you? Any driver would swerve to try and avoid it, but what would you do after hopefully missing the cow? Would you stop and try to help get it off the road? Would you speed up and try to get the attention of the driver who lost their cow? Would you go about your day, happy to be alive and safe, and leave the cow and driver to deal with it? Would you post this bizarre incident on social media, or keep it for a good story to tell in person? In Idaho, this situation is not impossible, and if it happened to you, what would you do?

Cow Loose on Idaho Highway

Many people in Idaho own cows, horses, and larger farm animals. These animals will often be moved from one place to another in a trailer, and from time to time there will be issues and the trailer may come unattached from the truck, or the door may not have been latched and fly open. Hopefully, the animals inside are secure, but if not, you may end up with a situation like the video above from Oklahoma, where cows are falling out and tumbling down the interstate. It has to be a shock as a driver to see a cow doing somersaults down the road in front of you, but in Idaho, it is best to be prepared for anything on the road. If this is to occur, your priority is to avoid the animal and to be safe, but what should you do next?

Helping Loose Cows in Idaho

While it might be nice to offer a hand to help the driver or try to help get the cow to safety, if you are not someone who handles these types of animals, you likely are going to be in the way. If the driver has continued down the road, not aware of their lost animal, you could speed up to try and notify them. You could get out and try to help keep other vehicles away from the cow until it is off the road, but that puts you at risk of getting hit and isn't wise. You could call the police to let them know, which is a good decision, but what should you do while you wait for them to arrive?

There is no way to truly prepare for a situation like this until it happens in front of you, which hopefully it never does. If you do find yourself in a rare occurrence like the one in the video above, and you see cows loose on the interstate or falling out of a trailer, what would you do?
