There are always differences between generations. It can be slang, the way you dress, the technology you use, or any number of things. Times are changing, the world is evolving, and the next generation always plays a major factor in that. There has been a huge gap between generations, but right now the gap seems bigger than ever, with technology playing a major factor. Millennials are essentially running the world at this point, and the way they do things is effecting many businesses. Some things have been used for years or ways things have been done are quietly going away because millennials do not use them or do things that way anymore. It has affected Idaho, and here are some things going away for good because millennials decided, they don't need them.

Doorbells Are a Thing of the Past

It may seem silly, but doorbells are secretly becoming a thing of the past. Yes, many of us have smart doorbells, but those are more used as security cameras or for YouTube videos than actual doorbells. Millennials, much more prefer to use the method of texting or calling, instead of ringing a doorbell. This also allows them to not have to get out of the car. The traditional doorbell might become a thing of the past moving forward.

Eating healthy is important and the more studies being done, the more we find out how bad things are that have been eaten for years. More and more people are transitioning to organic foods, which is affecting how many processed foods are bought and consumed. The negative side of this is that organic foods often cost more, which is likely why groceries are costing more than ever before. Thanks a lot, millennials.

Who Stays in a Hotel Anymore

Growing up, it used to be fun staying in hotels. There was free breakfast, a pool, a long hallway, and the shower never got cold. More and more people these days, specifically millennials, prefer to stay at Airbnb's over hotels. There is more privacy and more space, and it feels much more like home. The hotel industry has taken a slight hit, but don't worry, they won't all be going out of business anytime soon.

When was the last time you sent a postcard? Odds are it has been a while. Many millennials don't even know what they are. They view them as pretty pictures of where they are visiting. It would not be surprising to see postcards begin to fade away and eventually become part of the sentence, 'Back in my day we would send postcards.' With social media, they don't serve a purpose like they used to.

Nobody Wears High Heels Anymore

Millennials are all about comfort and what is convenient for them. Wearing high heels is not comfortable and it is rare to see anyone wear them anymore unless it is for a special occasion. It used to be that women would wear them to work, to church, or even at times going out. Now you see women in flats, slip-ons, and much more comfortable shoes. Heels appear to be out, comfortable shoes are in.

Lottery Ticket Sales Are Down

This one might be a little surprising but lottery tickets among millennials are down. According to a recent study, only 33 percent of millennials participate in the lottery, compared to 61 percent of people aged 50 to 64. The odds of winning are not good, leaving those buying tickets wasting money, and if by chance someone does win the money, it typically leads to bankruptcy after they blow through it or family problems. With winnings reaching record numbers, it is a tad shocking that millennials aren't willing to gamble though

It can be argued if millennials are making the world better or making it worse, but one thing not up for debate is that they are changing the way things happen and are used. Some of the things on this list will likely disappear moving forward, and others will linger, but not have the same impact that they once did.
