What would you do? What would you do if you received a gift this holiday season that you didn't want, already had, or weren't sure what it was? Every year, it seems like there is one or two gifts you get from someone that doesn't know you that well or think that you will like something that you don't need, may already have, or have to ask what it is or what it does. The tough part is acting like you are excited to get it if you open it in front of them. Sometimes you get a gift like this from a game exchange and have to figure out what to do with it next. One of the most awkward and uncomfortable parts of the holidays is opening a gift in front of someone as they watch you, and you find out it is something you hate or don't want. It can be tough to fake that smile, tell them it is amazing, and thank them for it. After they are gone, you then have to decide what to do with the item. Do you throw away a perfectly good gift? Do you give it to someone else? Do you keep it and never use it, or hope that someday you may change your mind? Does it matter what it is? Clothes are easy to store and exchange, especially if they don't fit, and so are games or an item you already have, but if it is something you don't know what it is, do you hold onto it or take it back and get something else?

Exchanging an item is the best option when you receive something you don't want. That way, you can get the money or store credit and get something else. Another option, depending on the gift and its cost, is that you can hold onto it and take it to a gift exchange the following year, without having to spend money, and get a good use out of the item. You could give it to someone as a good deed, if you want someone to get use out of it, and the value doesn't matter to you. You could hold onto it and keep it stored, but then you are likely delaying the inevitable.
