What would you do? What would you do if your child walked into the house holding a grenade and said that they found it in the yard? Would you be scared and alarmed? Would you be confused? Would you ask where in the yard? Would you call the cops and notify them of this discovery? Would you keep it? Would you throw it away? Would you research to determine its origin, age, and how it arrived there? This may seem odd, but it recently happened to a family, leaving some scratching their heads. However, the story gets even weirder than that.

Imagine sitting on your couch one peaceful afternoon, and your toddler comes inside saying they found something outside. You likely assume it is a bug, something you left out, or perhaps a toy or something thrown over the fence. Instead, your child shows you a grenade. Most would wonder where it came from, but there are also many other questions left to answer. This situation recently took place in Washington state and is as bizarre as it sounds. Police were notified of the discovery, and it is still yet to be determined where the grenade came from, but it has been determined that it was from World War 2 and that the grenade was still live, but has since been disposed of without any damage or harm. It is one thing to discover an old grenade, but another to find one that is still live and could be harmful.

When thinking about my child bringing me an old grenade, the thought of calling the cops never crossed my mind. My thought was that I would simply Google it to see where it could have come from and perhaps from what era the grenade could be from. If I had discovered it was from World War 2, I would be fascinated and likely clean it up and keep it to put on my shelf, display it, and show it off to friends and family. The thought of it being live and disposing of it would never cross my mind. It isn't because I don't want to be safe or want to hide it, but instead would think of it as a unique discovery with little likelihood that it could harm anyone. After talking to some friends, most agreed they would not have called the cops or thought of the risk of it being live.

While finding an old grenade is a fascinating story, it also could have been a harmful story to this family as well if they had not done the right thing. Thank goodness they are more responsible and thought things through more than my friends and I. To read more on this story, make sure to click the link in the second paragraph above. If you discovered a grenade in your yard one day, what would you do?
