What Would You Do? Bird Destroys Your Vehicle in the Gem State
What would you do? What would you do if you came out to your vehicle to find your mirror damaged, window cracked, or dents damaging your car, only to find out that it is a bird doing it? Would you attempt to kill the bird? Would you find a new place to keep your vehicle? Would you get a cover or some protection for it? Would you capture the bird and take it elsewhere? Would you shrug it off and hope the bird flies away, putting your vehicle at risk? This is a real situation that one neighborhood is dealing with, but if it were happening to you, what would you do?
Woodpecker Damaging Car Mirrors
When someone walks out and sees that the mirror, or window in their car has been damaged or that there are dents in their car, most would assume a teenager, a criminal of some sort, or a natural disaster. Most times, these would be the correct assumptions, but one neighborhood in Massachusetts found out that none of the above were the culprit for multiple cars being damaged in their neighborhood. As seen in the video above, a woodpecker was pecking at car mirrors when it saw its reflection and damaged multiple mirrors in the area. While some neighbors were able to laugh it off, would you be able to or would you be upset? Residents used trash bags and other means to protect their cars while leaving the bird unharmed, but in Idaho, would this be the same result?
Bird Destroys Vehicles in Idaho
The woodpecker above did damage to more than 20 vehicles and continues to fly and roam free. If you walked out to discover this done to your vehicle, how would you respond? Most Idahoans would likely want to kill the bird, but shooting in a residential area is not allowed. Not everyone would want to go this route, as they wouldn't want to harm the animal, despite being upset and having to fix their vehicle. The best option is to put your vehicle in a garage, and if that isn't an option, buy a cover for your car to protect it when parked at home. Fish and Game are unlikely to move a common bird for such activity, and removing it yourself would be a tough task to do so legally.

Thank goodness no reports of woodpeckers damaging mirrors or windows on vehicles have been reported at this time, but as seen in the video above, don't rule anything out. While calling the cops and reporting an incident like this is uncommon, it would be tough to convince an officer you want a bird arrested for damaging your vehicle. If you do find yourself in this situation, what would you do?
