How do you continue to wake up each day? What do you do as your next move, as the person you once loved or currently love took what meant the most to you in your life? This is something that tragically too many parents have had to deal with recently, and as a parent, the thought is devastating and heartbreaking. What is next after such a life-altering thing occurs?

Sadly, there are too many instances that have occurred where a parent in Idaho or surrounding states have taken the lives of their children, and it is astounding that such disastrous behavior has happened in multiple situations. There are well-known cases of this occurring, as well as lesser-known instances. Recently, a man in Washington was accused of taking the lives of his three children, and the thought of how their mother has to wake up and deal with this is uncomfortable. Losing a child is life-altering, but losing them in this nature leaves a parent with unanswered questions and takes a toll on them mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

When two people have a child, their job is to protect it at all costs. There are instances where parents have no control such as a stillbirth, cancer, a life-threatening illness, or an accident when they weren't around. A parent is supposed to make children feel safe and loved, not be the person that hurts them. When two people decide to raise their children apart from one another, no matter their feelings towards one another, the kids always come first. You should feel your child is safe as their mother or father takes them for the day, the weekend, or the week. Imagine finding out they are the reason you will never hold your precious children again. A friend of mine went through this years ago, after dropping his daughter off with her mother, not knowing it would be the last time he'd ever see her. Despite all the years passing, he is still dealing with the loss today.

Reading the story that took place in Washington recently and having seen what my friend has gone through, I can't imagine having to live life every day after such a devastating moment. My life and world would crumble. I would never be the same. I'd likely never leave bed, go to work, or want to function in life again, and this is the tough reality these parents must deal with. If you found out your children had been killed by someone who is supposed to love and protect them, what would you do?
