Right now there is a national coin shortage. Because of this, businesses are asking that you pay with exact change, including coins or use electronic payment. If you have coins you may want to go to a bank to exchange them.

I know we aren't the only ones who have a big jar in our closet full of random coins. I am thinking it might be time to start exchanging them or digging through and finding ways to pay for things with exact change.

From some of the research I can see, the Federal Reserve Bank has put limits on requests for all coin change including half dollars and dollar coins. This appears to be because of the Coronavirus and the closure of much of the economy. Without banks and restaurants and other businesses that exchange change, the passing of coins has kind of stopped. I mean really think about the last time you went anywhere and paid with exact change.

Businesses around Twin Falls have responded by requesting electronic payment or exact change purchases. I mean, if they can't give you your change it is hard to let you pay with cash. It is kind of a vicious cycle. People can't pay with coins right now and businesses can't give out change. Some are calling for electronic payment of everything. Others believe electronic payment is a breach of freedom and a way for the government to track everything you do. I am not sure how I feel about the situation, but maybe someone fixing all the Coin Star machines would help the case.
