It is that time of year again. Summer vacation is ending and school is starting back up again. Some schools in the Magic Valley are already back in session, while others will start in the coming days or weeks. Finally, kids will be off the streets in the day and will have some structure back in their lives. They will figure out their new routines over the next few weeks, but they aren't the only ones that will have to make adjustments. As school starts back up, there are a few things for adults to be mindful of and some adjustments they will have to make this fall.

As school starts back up, there will need to be some adjustments to many morning schedules, even for those who don't have kids. It has been a few months, but school zones will be active once again in the mornings and afternoons, so make sure to pay attention and lower the speed, especially when approaching a school. Be alert at all times, as kids are known to run in front of cars, especially if they are running late or trying to get to their friends or class. This also will put new drivers on the road who are driving to school for the first time, so be patient behind young drivers and also be alert. Most of these young drivers have been in bed when most of us have been driving to work the last few months, so it will be their first time in morning traffic.

While keeping an eye open for children is important, they won't be the only ones to be mindful of. Especially during the first week of school, officers will want to make sure everyone is safe and will be monitoring traffic, especially in school zones. It is most important to be patient for everyone's safety, but also to avoid any potential tickets. Give yourself extra time the next couple of weeks to get to and from work, as traffic will be a little heavier, but should lighten up once everyone gets into their routines.

Make sure to take a breath and lay off the horn these next couple of weeks. Your patience will be tested as everyone navigates the beginning of the new school year, but soon everything will be back to normal. Be smart and drive safely, obey the rules of the road, and avoid hitting any children crossing the road. School is back in session.

We all know that feeling of driving down the street innocently obeying all the laws and a cop car pulls up behind you and you immediately feel like a felon on the run.
