Worst Speed Trap in Idaho
Taking kids to school can be a task that many parents dread throughout the year, and for those who don't have this daily duty, it can be a headache driving through school zones. Typically school zones have their lights flashing in the morning as school is beginning, during lunch breaks, and during the end of school to help students get to and from the building safely. Most know during these times to be prepared to slow down, but for some school zones, their signs are on at unique times, making for a speed trap that drivers need to be aware of. Most schools stick to the usual schedule, but there are those in the Gem State that have their signs flashing at all times through the school day, which can often catch drivers off guard if they are not paying attention.
School Zones in Idaho
In Filer, Idaho there is a school zone that has the lights flashing throughout the day, and not only during the usual hours. It doesn't matter if you drive through the area at 10 AM or 1:30 PM, it is likely that you will be forced to slow down to 25 miles per hour during the weekdays. This can set drivers up for speeding through as they typically do not expect a school zone to be active during that time and having come down from going 60 on the highway. According to Idaho Law, if a sign reads 'when children are present' you must slow down when children are in the area, but when lights are flashing, you must slow down until out of the school zone. Being located on a highway is part of why this school zone is the way it is, and why drivers should be prepared to slow down.

If traveling in this area through the week, make sure to keep an eye open for the flashing lights, and to obey them, even if you disagree with them being on. Officers are sitting and waiting, and it is recommended to not test them. For more on school zones and the law in Idaho, make sure to click the link above.
