Speed traps are nothing new, and many are well aware that it is common for officers in the Gem State to find a nice spot to park their car, sit back, and wait for speedsters to fly by them before being pulled over and issued a ticket. This is a common practice for officers in any state, but officers have upped their game and are now setting up a trap that is treating Idaho drivers like lab rats and if you don't know it is there, you are likely to get pulled over and issued a ticket yourself.

As many know, there is constant construction happening in the Magic Valley. New roads seem to be closed each day, and others are closed currently and will remain that way for some time. Because of this, often there is only one way to and from certain areas of town or one option to and from towns in the Magic Valley. Due to ongoing construction on 4100 N and other side roads around Buhl, most traffic has been funneled to Highway 30, making traffic heavier and more drivers than usual taking that route. Due to this, officers are taking advantage of it and sitting and waiting for impatient drivers to speed by them so they can pull them over.

Anytime someone sees an officer sitting in their car on the side of the road, they assume it is a speed trap. While at times this is true, it can also be to monitor traffic and encourage drivers to drive safely. Often the presence of an officer will slow down traffic, albeit for only a few minutes or seconds, but in those moments, the road is typically safer. Many times they have no intent to pull vehicles over but are hoping when vehicles see them that they will slow down and be safer. Other times, they hide in the shadows at night, looking to pull you over. This is what is happening on Highway 30 just outside of Buhl. On the east side of town, an officer is sitting in front of Commercial Tire when it is dark, waiting to catch cars flying by. This is where the speed limit changes from 45 to 60 or 60 to 45 depending on which direction you are going. They will also at times sit outside of Snake River Sprinklers, or on the side of the road on Hwy 30 between Buhl and Filer in the dark.

Make sure to slow down when entering or leaving Buhl, especially in the early morning or late evening. Even without an officer present, it is important to do so, especially when entering town as their are homes on each side of the road and it is for their safety and yours to obey the speed limit.
