What Major Food Chain in ID, WA, and UT is Closing More Locations

When it comes to food chains in America, there are some that you find in nearly every down. No matter how big or small a town is, most places seem to have a McDonald's, a Taco Bell, and a Subway. Not only are Subway and McDonald's in most places in America, but they are even big internationally as well. One of these food chains has been decreasing their stores over the last couple of years and is looking to decrease more by eliminating a significant amount of stores. Idaho, Washington, and Utah will likely be seeing one of the most popular food chains in the world close locations across the states throughout the year.

Subway is the largest food chain in the country and at one time had well over 20,000 locations nationwide. In a small area like Twin Falls and the surrounding towns, there are nine locations in a 20-mile radius. That number dropped below 20,000 in 2024 though when Subway decided to close over 600 locations. It may have seemed like a lot and that they were done, but more closures are coming in 2025, and this time will take them below 19,000 stores in the United States. At the same time Subway has over 37,000 stores worldwide, yet stores in the U.S. are quickly closing.

Why Are Subway Stores Closing in Idaho, Washington, and Utah?

With the chain growing internationally, why is it closing in America? Average sales have decreased at many locations over the last couple of years, the competition is growing rapidly with new sandwich chains, and consumer preferences have all been factors in locations closing. There is no set number on how many stores will be closing in 2025 but likely locations in Idaho, Washington, Utah, and other states will join the growing list, especially if stores are underperforming. Subway is looking into a few factors before deciding to close a location, such as image, ownership, and making sure their stores are in the best locations.
