On May 16, 2024, at 12:22 p.m., the Idaho State Police responded to a serious accident on westbound Interstate 84 at milepost 213, east of Heyburn. The collision involved a semi-truck and multiple other vehicles, resulting in one fatality.

Semi-Truck Fails to Yield in Construction Zone

A 60-year-old male from Cleveland, TN, was driving a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck pulling a trailer westbound on Interstate 84. The semi-truck failed to yield to slowing traffic in a construction zone, causing a chain reaction crash involving five other vehicles.

One Fatality and Multiple Injuries

Tragically, the driver of the 2017 Ford pickup succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A passenger from the same vehicle and the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado were transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Traffic Disruption and Emergency Response

The westbound lanes of Interstate 84 were blocked for approximately five and a half hours as emergency responders worked to assist the injured and clear the scene. All involved parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
