Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on US26 Near Palisades

Palisades, Idaho – Idaho State Police (ISP) is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on US26 at milepost 391 on December 14, 2024.

Details of the Crash

At approximately 2:16 p.m., a 2018 Jeep Renegade driven by a 66-year-old man from Shelley, Idaho, crossed the center line while traveling eastbound on US26. The vehicle collided head-on with a westbound 2020 Freightliner 114SD snowplow driven by a 48-year-old man from Swan Valley, Idaho.

Injuries and Fatality

The driver of the Jeep succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A 67-year-old female passenger in the Jeep sustained injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital. The snowplow driver was not reported to have sustained injuries.

Seatbelt Usage

All individuals involved in the crash, including the Jeep’s driver, passenger, and the snowplow driver, were reported to be wearing seatbelts.

Road Closures and Response

The crash resulted in the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes of US26 for approximately four hours.

Idaho State Police received assistance from several agencies, including the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Idaho Transportation Department, Idaho Falls Ambulance, Swan Valley Fire Department, and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
