Nearly a Third of True Idahoans Are Leaving Idaho, and Here is Why
Idaho is one of the fastest-growing states in the country, and it seems that many towns in the Gem State are increasing daily. A new neighbor is moving in, a new store has popped up, new houses are being built, and the population proliferates. Despite the boom in population in Idaho, it has also seen its fair share of people exiting the state. Everyone has different reasons for moving. It can be a job, it can be a financial situation, a family situation, or perhaps something else. What is most alarming is that the people moving out appear to be born and raised Idahoans, but why are they leaving home?
Why Idahoans Are Leaving Idaho
Many people are moving to the Gem State, but many born and raised Idahoans have decided to flee, but the reason might be surprising. The good news is that Idaho is one of the bottom five states to see people move out, but the ones that are moving out aren't the ones you want to leave. According to a recent study on finance1st.com, the reason for people going is the lack of busy cities and job opportunities. The percentage of people moving out of Idaho is 32.6 percent, which may seem high, but it is low compared to other states.
People Moving In and Out of Idaho
According to the survey, the cost of living is what is bringing people to the Gem State, but despite the costs, it isn't enough to keep everyone here. Perhaps one of the reasons that a third of Idahoans have looked to leave is due to the population growth of 5.4 percent over the last two years. While the state is beautiful and offers great things to do in nature, that isn't for everyone, and the lack of major metropolitan and job opportunities has many looking elsewhere. While getting outside is great and the summers and springs are enjoyable, the long winters can take a toll as well, and have many looking for warmer conditions and shorter winters.

While the state continues to grow, locals are finding ways to escape the boom in population. Compared to other states, the exit isn't that extreme, but it is surprising to see so many leaving their home state.
