A word of warning.  Don't read on if you don't want the answer to the Facebook Giraffe Challenge.

First, the challege aprarantly was started by  New Zealander Andrew Strugnell

I'm still not entirely sure why he started it and I've seen rumors that the challenge is some kind of virus but I find it very unlikely.  The best I can tell, it's just another silly Facebook fad.

Here's how it works:

Someone posts a riddle, the most common one is below, and asks their friends to message with the answer.  If you get the answer correct, nothing happens.

If you get the answer wrong, you are supposed to change your profile picture to a giraffe for a number of days.  It's on the honor system.  And it must be working becuase I have at least 10 facebook friends who've changed their profile pic.

Here is the riddle that is most commonly associated with the Giraffe Challenge:

3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors, it’s your parents and they are there for breakfast. All you have is strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?

Like most riddles, it gets you thinking about all of the items it wants you to choose from when the real answer has nothing to do with any of them.  A bit of misdirection, if you will.

Before you can actually have breakfast with you parents, you must first open the DOOR.

I've seen compelling arguments that say that "Eyes" are the correct answer.  That holds water.  You do have to open your eyes before you can even get to the door.  But I'm having a hard time letting go of 'door.'  The way the riddle is written, is seems as though we've already established that you are awake and are aware your parents are at the door.

Openeing your eyes in the past tense.  And the question is written for the present.

That leads me to stick with door as my answer.

Play along if you like...
