Idahoans Have To Clear Snow From Sidewalks Or Face A Fine
Snow season is here! Most of the ski and snowboarding areas are open and snow is more often in the forecast. That being said, make sure that you clear your sidewalks from snow. If you don't you can get into some trouble.
Clear Snow From Sidewalks Or Face A Fine
If you own or rent a house or business, you are responsible for the removal of snow from the sidewalks. The snow must be cleared within 24 hours of the snowfall to ensure you do not get a fine. If you do not clear the sidewalks, the first violation is a $100 dollar fine, the second violation is $200 dollars, and the third violation is $300 dollars. These are considered by a full calendar year. Anything further than that is subject to a misdemeanor punishable by up to 60 days in jail and/or $300 dollars. These rules also apply to ice removal, debris removal, and weed removal.
Reasons It Is So Important To Clear Snow
First and foremost, it is best for you. You are much less likely to fall and hurt yourself. That saves you money in the long run. Second, if you don't clear the snow, mail people and delivery drivers are more likely to hurt themselves. Children still play outside along those sidewalks. You are responsible for the sidewalk in front of whatever property you own.
Do Not Remove Snow From Sidewalk Into Roads
You cannot remove the snow from your sidewalk and just push it into the road. That is also dangerous and illegal. That could lead to a fine as well. I am not sure many side roads would notice that, because it isn't like they get plowed as it is. That being said, don't do it.
Penalties Other Than Fines You Could Face
The City Ordinance also states that if you do not take care of the problem whether it be snow removal, debris, ice, weeds, or whatever, the City will get it taken care of and you will be responsible for paying the bill. No thanks.
