Home Cameras, Security, and How the Gem State Uses Their Devices
The world is paranoid, and nobody seems to trust anybody these days. The world has become scary, and the days of kids playing outdoors freely, leaving doors unlocked, and leaving garage doors open are in the past. These days, few people answer their doors when someone knocks or rings the doorbell, and this is all due to technology. The good news is that this helps lower theft, avoid unwanted solicitors, and unwanted interactions, but it also means less human interaction as well. Everyone seems to have a security camera these days, but how many people in Idaho have them, and how are they actually using them?
Security Cameras in Idaho
Do you own a security camera for your home? If not, it might be time to get one. ahs.com recently revealed a survey about security cameras, and not surprisingly, 78% of homeowners surveyed own a security camera of some sort. Half of them admit to owning the camera to feel safer, despite 53 percent admitting they don't believe their camera prevents crime. Despite many wanting a camera to feel safe, 28 percent surveyed said they still own a gun as well, and odds are likely that number is higher in Idaho. The top reason for wanting a camera is to be able to avoid unwanted visitors. Surprisingly, 1 in 10 have used it to spy on their neighbors, but 1 in 6 are paranoid and believe their cameras have been hacked. When it comes to being out of town, nearly 80 percent said they prefer a security camera instead of having a trusted neighbor watch the home.
Owning a Security Camera in Idaho
Where do people own security cameras? According to the study, 82 percent of homes in suburban areas have cameras, 76 percent in urban areas do, and 69 percent in rural areas have cameras. A surprisingly low number of those surveyed own a doorbell camera, with only 55 percent having one, 54 percent owning an outdoor camera, and 28 percent owning an indoor camera. One in four people admits to having an outdoor camera to see what is happening outdoors without being noticed, which may seem a little creepy, but also makes sense. So, how often are people checking their cameras? According to the survey, 43 percent admit to checking it daily, 21 percent admit to a few times per week, and another 21 percent say as needed. The top reason for the camera is to avoid unwanted visitors, with others saying they use it to watch wildlife, watch pets, or watch their children.
