The racing community of Idaho is mourning the death of a true NASCAR legend. News broke Thursday evening worldwide that Kyle Busch died of an undisclosed illness at age 41 after being hospitalized on May 20.

Busch, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, was reportedly found unresponsive Wednesday, and rushed to the hospital in the hours leading up to his death on Thursday, according to the New York Post.

Busch's current 2026 NASCAR racing statistics included 217 points, two top 10 finishes, and a ranking of 24th, according to NASCAR.com. Busch is considered one of the greatest racers of his time and has totaled more than 400 wins in multiple divisions including automobile and truck competitions.

I spoke with several friends and co-workers Friday morning regarding the racer's sudden passing from a still unannounced illness, and the majority expressed sadness and shock over the news. Fox News has reported that Busch has been the first active NASCAR driver to pass away since Dale Earnhardt died from a crash on the track in 2001.
