Police in Northern Idaho are still investigating the death of a Washington State woman whose skeletal remains were recently discovered in shallow river waters nearly eight months after being reported missing.

Police have been focusing their investigation in an area of St. Joe River east of Calder  in Shoshone County. Little information has been made publicly about the female whose remains were located by a kayaker on July 6.

The mother of two has been identified as Chantal Williams of eastern Washington. She was 24 years old when she went missing on December 13, 2025.

Some reports have mentioned that Williams' mental state may have factored into her leaving her residence and traveling to the river. Investigators haven't publicly ruled out foul play at this point.
