Charges Filed Against California Man In Fire Near Hailey Idaho

A fire that started on July 18 and required over 100 responders to extinguish was the result of a group of individuals firing weapons in the hills south of Sun Valley, and one man from Los Angeles has been charged in the incident.

The Ohio Fire was reported one week ago and in that time scorched more than 2,000 acres, according to Western Fire Chiefs. The fire has since been completely contained.

A central Idaho sheriff's department recently shared details of the fire and the actions by those who caused the blaze that took 114 responders five days to put out.

A California Man Has Been Charged In The Ohio Fire That Started Near Hailey On July 18

According to a Blaine County Sheriff's Office Meta post from Wednesday (July 22), a group of six people shooting guns accidentally sparked the fire and immediately contacted 9-1-1 and stayed at the site until fire personnel arrived.

The California man faces a misdemeanor Firing Timber charge (Section 18-7004) and could face a brief time in jail and fines, according to the release from the sheriff's office.

Two other area blazes, the Cabin Creek and Martin fires, started on July 9 and 10, and burned woodland near Alturas Lake and Bellevue. For current updates on all of the fires burning statewide, click here.
