A semi-truck accident in Southern Idaho left a sticky mess on the highway north of Twin Falls.

The truck was pulling a tanker filled with molasses when it crash and spilled the sweet liquid onto the highway along with gallons of diesel fuel.

Sticky Situation in Southern Idaho After Semi Truck Crashes and Spills Fuel and Molasses onto Highway

The Idaho State Police are investigating the crash that happened around 9 PM on Wednesday night. The accident occurred on I84 at mile marker 173 near Twin Falls. 173 is the mile point where the Interstate 84 and Highway 93 interchange happens and is an active construction zone.

The report from Idaho State Police states:

A 59-year-old male from Nampa, was driving westbound on Interstate 84 in a 2024 Mack semi-truck pulling a 2017 Polar Tank loaded with molasses.

The Mack semi-truck struck the construction barrier, spilling its load of diesel fuel and molasses across approximately 200 feet of roadway.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and didn't require medical attention or transport.

The mess on the highway took about 6 hours for crews to clean up and blocked the westbound lanes of travel during that time.

Idaho 511 says the area where the accident happened is undergoing 'Major road construction on I-84 from MP 168 to MP 173. Intermittent lane closures with reduced speeds and changing traffic patterns.'

Drivers should take extra care in the area and watch for construction signs and direction.
