Racism has been and continues to be a part of our society, and despite the growth through the decades, there is still improvement to be made. Like women's rights, racial rights have progressed significantly, but still aren't where they should be in 2023. Some states are better at this and seeing racial progress, while other states continue to fail and have more work to do. When it comes to racial progress in the United States, which states are doing the best, which are doing the worst, and how does Idaho compare to the rest of the country?

With all states still needing to make a change in racial injustice, it is fair to wonder what states are making the best progress and which ones are making the least. WalletHub recently released a list ranking states by racial progress and used categories such as employment and wealth, education, social and civil engagement, and health. Using these criteria, it was determined that Hawaii has made the most racial progress, with Alaska at second and New Mexico at third to round out the top three. The state that has made the least amount of progress is Washington DC since they are included on the list, with Wisconsin and Iowa rounding out the bottom three.

According to the list, Idaho ranks at 12 as the state making the most racial progress. The Gem State ranks 17 in employment and wealth, 4 in education, 14 in social and civic engagement, and 34 in health. To add to the great ranking in education, Idaho has the fifth lowest gap percentage of adults with at least a bachelor's degree. Despite what the stereotype of Idaho is, the numbers show that the state is making great progress in making sure that racial equality is not a problem here.

While the numbers may be good for Idaho and the other eleven states above it on this list, that doesn't mean they can't improve. There is still a long way to go in racial equality in the United States, but in Idaho, we can know we are doing the best we can and doing it much better than other states currently are.
