Speed Limit Change on Busy Gem State Highway
There are certain roads that people drive every day. It eventually gets to a point where you can nearly drive them with your eyes closed because you know exactly where the road curves, where the hills are, and when the speed limits change. Many drive to work, school, or run errands in zombie mode, where they drive on instinct without remembering how they got from one place to the other. Recently, one of the most used roads in Southern Idaho changed the speed limit in one area, and if not aware it could lead to getting a speeding ticket.
New Speed Limit on Idaho Highway
For anyone who drives through Filer on Highway 30 regularly, you likely are familiar with how it can be what is referenced as a speed trap. Drivers go from 60 to 45, and down to 35 or 25 during school hours. It has often been a place where vehicles have issues dropping their speed to such a significant change. Prepare to go slower moving forward as officially the speed limit has been changed from 35 to 25 permanently moving forward. The signs have been switched out and officers will be issuing warnings for the first few weeks as drivers get familiar with the new speed limit. For those who drive this road daily, you may be speeding without realizing it, because you are used to the speed it has been for years.
Issues with New Speed Limit in Idaho
While it will be tough to go from 60 down to 25 in such a quick moment, this change is also setting up drivers to get speeding tickets down the line. As mentioned a few weeks ago, officers are hiding on Highway 30 waiting to catch drivers speeding while more traffic than normal is forced to take this route because of road work on other roads in and out of the area. Now lowering the speed limit increases the chances of getting pulled over even more. It will take time to adjust to this new speed, and hopefully, you will be able to adjust sooner than later.

The next time you go through Filer on Highway 30, make sure to look at the speed limit and watch your speedometer to make sure you aren't going faster than the marked limit. It may feel like you are going too slow at first, but it beats the consequences if you are caught going the old speed.
