Fire in Canyon Near Pillar Falls

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX)-City and federal fire crews responded to a brush fire in Twin Falls down in the Snake River canyon that came up very close to homes along the rim Saturday.

According to the city of Twin Falls, Twin Falls Fire Department was called out some time around 5 p.m. to a fire that started near Pillar Falls, east of the Perrine Bridge, that worked its way up the canyon wall to several homes near the edge on Pole Line Road E. The road into the neighborhood was blocked off and the Canyon Rim Trailhead in the area was closed off to the public.

Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service-Sawtooth National Forest firefighters also responded to help fight the fire down in the canyon. A Type 1 helicopter, double rotor, flew in with a large bucket that dipped into the Snake River to help stop the fire from advancing. The Twin Falls County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol ferried firefighters up-river to the fire. It appears it took a little more than an hour to get the blaze under control and out.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time, however information on Idahofireinfo.com indicates it was human caused. More information to come...
