Since the year began, the California wildfires have been grabbing the headlines. Many around the country have watched as the flames have taken out the homes of celebrities, shopping centers, and places that many long to visit on the West Coast. It is heartbreaking to see so many losing their homes and everything they own, as the fires continue to spread and damage more of the area. While the fires are terrible news for the Golden State, they have turned into a positive for Idaho and are benefitting the Gem State.

The wildfires have been terrible, and while some will affect Idaho, some will also be beneficial. Recently, Governor Brad Little of Idaho released a statement on the wildfires and how Idaho is learning from California's mistakes.

“We must maintain a coordinated, strategic approach to improving wildfire prevention and response in our great state if we are going to protect lives and property from the destruction of wildfire. The new wildfire report is a big part of that strategy, and I appreciate the strong support from many partners in helping us lay out priorities to guide our actions.”

The above is a statement from Governor Little on how to help prevent the spread of wildfires in Idaho to avoid a catastrophe similar to California.

One of the major issues in California is that they have not managed their water supply well, and Governor Little has made it clear that the plan is to manage fuels to reduce fire risks in the Gem State. Also learning from the West Coast, Governor Little wants to ensure no increased bills after a fire event. Another top priority is to improve communication between first responders and the 'first' first responders. This allows to attack fires sooner and more effectively before they spread. While many of us watch the flames continue to spread and damage California, we can learn from their mistakes and hopefully avoid the spread of flames throughout the Gem State in Idaho. Being prepared and working to prevent fires from the beginning is half the battle. There will be more fallout for Idaho because of the fires, but if helping learn from their mistakes is one of them, then these fires may be beneficial to Idaho in the end.
