8 Jobs Idaho People Think Are Cool But Actually Suck
Some people spend years getting a degree. Others spend hours getting special training and certifications. But is that position worth the work it takes to get there? It seems so cool, to begin with. The layman doesn’t realize the truth behind the romanticized job.
The world lied. Staying in these jobs means they are a labor of love. People who make a career of these jobs stay in them because they want to, not because it is cool. After looking at many different lists, there is a common theme of jobs that aren’t worth it unless you mean it.
TV and Movies Make These Jobs Seem Cooler Than They Are to Outsiders
Journalism gives thoughts of breaking a huge story of corruption, crisis, or crime. It ends up writing articles like ‘5 best cakes in the area that don’t contain gluten’.
Veterinarians get to work with neglected animals, or ‘over-loved’ ones. The job is emotionally taxing and filled with strong smells.
Flight attendants have many more stresses than any passenger realizes. Flying 30,000 feet in the air consistently breathing cabin air with passengers who are cranky, scared, or gassy, while looking forward to living out of a suitcase and traveling away from family to see exotic hotel rooms more often than not.
A game developer or tester seems super awesome, but the job is tedious and repetitive. While setting up an idea for a game may be nifty, the reality of dealing with every single element can become grueling. Testers make close to minimum wage after all is said and done.
Lifeguards do not all sit on the beach working on their tans. The job is physically challenging and psychologically grueling. Nothing happens and then everything does all at once.
The law may seem glamorous, but it takes years of study before and after to make anything work. Most time is spent behind a desk doing research, typing, and dealing with angry people.
Therapists go to years of school to help people. The emotional toll on the therapists themselves can be overwhelming. Believe it, therapists have therapists.
Archaeologists do not live in a world of ‘Indiana Jones’ or ‘Jurassic Park’. The study is long, the pay is low, rewards may be few, and the showers can be few and far between.
So, just be happy with where you are and what you do. If you have one of these jobs, may the force be with you.
