Why Camping in the Gem State is Overrated
Idaho is known for its natural beauty, beautiful lakes, and mountains, which is why so many think that Idaho is one of the best places in the country to camp. Many in the Gem State love spending a weekend camping in one of the many beautiful places to enjoy a day or a few in nature. There is great fishing, hiking, and natural beauty that you can't find in other places. It seems like everyone in Idaho owns a trailer or RV of some sort, and camping is a must every spring, summer, and fall. Is Idaho the best place in the country to go camping? How does camping in Idaho compare to other places around the country?
The Best States to Camp in the Country
When most people think of camping, they think of mountains, lakes, rivers, and being outdoors in a beautiful area. Lawnlove.com recently released a list ranking the best states for camping and ranked them based on categories like access, quality, supplies, safety, and affordability. Using these criteria, it was determined that California is the best state for camping, with Texas being second, and Florida rounding out the top three. The worst state for camping is Rhode Island, with Hawaii being the second worst, and Connecticut rounding out the bottom three. Hawaii ranked as the most expensive state to camp in, with North Dakota ranking as the cheapest state to camp in. With Idaho not being in the top three, is it barely making the cut, or is Idaho overrated and not near the top at all?
Is Idaho a Good State For Camping?
Contrary to what many in Idaho believe, the study does not rank Idaho among the top 5 or even 10 states for camping. Idaho comes in at number 20 when it comes to the best states to camp in. Idaho is 16th in access, 31st in quality, 25th in supplies, 21st in safety, and 33rd in affordability. This ranking may upset many in the Gem State, but if campers look at this list and take it to heart, the good news is that it could mean that the best camping areas in Idaho remain uncrowded and allow you to enjoy your time in nature. No matter what the list says, most will disagree with the ranking and agree that Idaho has some incredible places to enjoy, and that you don't need to leave the state to enjoy a few days or weeks camping.
