Favorite California Food Delivery Service Calls It Quits
Yelloh to End California Operations in November
Yelloh, formerly known as Schwan’s, has announced it will cease operations nationwide, including in California, by November 2024. The company, once a leader in frozen food delivery, cited significant economic challenges, market pressures, and changing consumer habits as reasons for the closure. For many California families, Yelloh’s iconic yellow trucks were a familiar sight, delivering frozen meals and treats directly to their doorsteps.
A Legacy of Service
Founded in 1952, Yelloh became a pioneer in home delivery, with its trusted service extending across the United States, including California. For decades, Yelloh’s employees built lasting relationships with customers. CEO Bernardo Santana noted, “It has been our utmost pleasure and honor to serve our customers their favorite meals and frozen treats.” However, as digital shopping trends rose, personal deliveries declined, a shift that hit the company hard.
While the company has already shut down several delivery centers nationwide, including in states like Kentucky, the closure will also impact California, where Yelloh had a significant presence.
The End of an Era
Yelloh’s leadership acknowledged the emotional weight of the decision. Santana expressed gratitude to loyal customers and employees, while board member Michael Ziebell shared the difficulty of closing a business that had been integral to millions of lives.
The company’s final day of delivery services will be November 8, 2024. Employees will be supported through this transition, and the closure will follow regulations under the WARN Act. Yelloh’s exit from the market marks the end of an era for home delivery in California and beyond.
