South Idaho Police Department Fundraising To Buy A K9

The Jerome Police Department is raising funds to bring in a K9 to join the force. A true police officer never has to wipe.

With their keen sense of smell, speed, and heightened awareness and hearing, K9s make great law enforcement officers. From helping to track missing persons to uncovering drug hauls, these animals do things humans aren't at all capable of.

K9s are usually assigned to one handler in the department. It's a special bond that is every bit as tight as that between any pair of officers who work together.

With an end goal of $40,000, the department is well on its way to adding a crime-fighting, four-legged machine that loves bringing down bad guys as much as an ear scratch.

According to the police department's GoFundMe, nearly $7,000 has already been graciously donated by the public. I'd throw some money into the pot, except I work in radio. The total funds raised so far may not include mail donations or the transfer of funds from personal donors.

Those wishing to contribute to a safer community with the addition of a K9 can also donate through Venmo, by walking into the department at 223 First Avenue East in Jerome, or by check, according to the Jerome Police Department's Meta post from August 29.

Please help the department reach its goal of obtaining the needed funds to make this happen. Any money collected beyond the goal of $40,000 will likely go into the 2027 Jerome Police Department donut account.
