What would you do? What would you do if your heater or fireplace broke or wasn't able to be used during the winter in Idaho? The temperatures can often be below freezing, sometimes sitting in single digits for days, or perhaps even below zero. Not having a heater doesn't seem like an option, but they can and do break, or a wood-burning stove could get backed up and start pushing smoke back out. With no source of heat to get through the longest and coldest season in the Gem State, what would you do?

With Idaho winters lasting for sometimes 4 to 5 months, and temperatures being below freezing sometimes well into April, a heater or a fireplace is a must in the Magic Valley. Sometimes a heater will break due to not being used for months, or through the years, and it is time to be replaced. Perhaps you use a stove or fireplace to stay warm, but something goes wrong with the chimney, and you can't get anyone out to fix it for a few days or weeks. It can cause a problem, especially if the forecast is projecting snow or temperatures in single digits or lower. Blankets and bundling up are nice, but make it tough to do things around the home. What would you do in this situation? 

How to Stay Warm With a Heater in Idaho

If a heater or fireplace goes out, there are a few options. The simplest answer is to go stay with a friend, a family member, or in a hotel until things can get fixed. The problem with this solution is it can be a little costly, and inconvenient. For a night or two it might work, but long term it wouldn't be the best way to go. Buying space heaters to put into certain rooms can be a way to go, but these can be dangerous and start house fires if not used properly and can be dangerous with children. Bundling up and using blankets is one simple solution, but sometimes it isn't enough, and it makes it tough to be productive around the home because you will be cold once you leave the blanket. There are options, but choosing the best way to go is tough.

Hopefully, there is a handyman in the house who can fix the problem, which will save money and be the fastest answer to getting warmed up once again. If there isn't someone who can fix it in the home, then you look above and figure out what works best.
