Don’t Get too Excited For Spring In Idaho Yet
The calendar says that it is officially spring, but in Idaho, it is often day-to-day if it feels like it. One day it is in the 70s, the next it is windy, in the 40s, and perhaps snowflakes in the forecast. It is hard to predict this time of year, but many are excited to see the end of winter coming soon. No more blizzards, no more freezing days, and no more weeks locked inside. There is a reason to look forward to spring, but it is not all good in Idaho, as there are some bad things that come with the change in season. Don't get too excited for spring, because some things may not be as nice as you remember.
The Negative Sides of Spring in Idaho
While most in the Gem State are excited to finally get outside and put winter in the past, it isn't all it is cracked up to be. Some things about spring are not so enjoyable and may have many missing winter. When the cold weather comes in, it locks many of us in our house for months, which is a drag, but there are benefits to it.
Yard Work in Spring
One of the best parts about winter, is you get some free time without having to do yard work unless there is snow. This allows more time to rest, or do things inside the home, instead of having to mow, pull weeds, or do other chores outside. Some enjoy these, but they can be a burden and take a toll on your back as well.
Bugs Are Back in Idaho
One of the best parts about winter is that it kills off the majority of bugs. No annoying flies, threatening wasps, or spiders to avoid. With the turn from winter to spring, all these critters will be reemerging, and it won't be as enjoyable anymore.
More Drivers on the Road
When the winter weather hits, some refuse to get on the road unless it is an emergency, because they aren't comfortable on the snow and ice. It may also be because they don't want to leave the warmth of their homes either. As the weather gets nicer, more and more people will want to get out to run errands, or perhaps take a nice spring drive. This can lead to more accidents, and it can lead to more traffic in and around town.
Gas Prices on the Rise
As mentioned above, more and more people will be getting out and using their vehicles with winter ending, and gas companies are aware of this. Their prices will begin to rise, which means your wallets will be getting lighter going forward.
These are only a few reasons why spring isn't as great as you may think in Idaho. While it is nice to be outside again, and the days in the 70s are much appreciated, it isn't the best season of the year, as there are plenty of negatives that come with it. Enjoy the nice days, but when the bugs begin to come back out, the gas prices start to rise, the roads get more crowded, and the yard work starts getting old, don't say you weren't warned.
