ISP Report 3 Deaths in 2 Incidents Over the Weekend
Train in Payette County vs. Pedestrian Reported by Idaho State Police
On Friday, February 23rd at about 6:30 PM, a female from Payette was walking southbound on the railroad tracks. A northbound train struck the person on NW Avenue and Washoe Road. The individual died of her injuries at the scene.
Emergency responders and investigators blocked the intersection for approximately 3 hours to clear the scene.
Idaho State Police Respond to Double Fatality Crash South of Swan Lake
South of Swan Lake a crash occurred resulting in a double fatality on Saturday, February 24th. ISP responded to the crash at 3:41 PM in Bannock County on US91 at milepost 24.
An 86-year-old male from Preston, was driving a 2003 Buick northbound on US91 when the vehicle crossed over the center line and collided head on with a 2012 Nissan. The Nissan was driven by a 49-year-old male from Hyrum, UT.
The driver of the Buick succumbed to his injuries on scene. The passenger of the Nissan, a 53-year-old female also from Hyrum, succumbed to her injuries on scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported via air ambulance to a local hospital. All occupants of the Nissan were wearing their seatbelts.
After 5 hours, emergency personnel and agencies called in to assist were able to open US91 once again. ISP was assisted by Bannock County Sheriff’s Office, Bannock County Search and Rescue, Downey Ambulance, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Franklin County Ambulance, Franklin County Fire Department, and Preston Police Department.
These incidents remain under investigation by ISP.
