It could be a wardrobe malfunction that something is showing but shouldn't be and nobody brings it to your attention. We all have these moments, but when it comes to living in Idaho what are the worst scenarios to have someone not tell you sooner rather than later?

Mountain Lion Spotted Near You

This one is more of a life-and-death situation, but if you are out hiking or camping and someone spots a mountain lion but doesn't tell you, you might be upset to find out later that they knew and you didn't. The good news is that it means you remained calm and survived the situation, but it also means your friends or family members were looking out for themselves. It is always nice to be aware of a dangerous wild animal nearby sooner than later. 

Mispronouncing Boise

This is one that many are guilty of, and may not be aware they are doing wrong until locals tell them. Anytime you watch national news about Boise, the news anchors mispronounce the city, as well as new residents and tourists to the Gem State. This writer might be guilty of mispronouncing the city from time to time as well. It is embarrassing when you find out that you have been saying it wrong for so long, and it would have been nice to know sooner than later. 

Getting Lost in Idaho

Everyone in Idaho seems to know where every single hidden gem is or building. You ask an Idahoan for directions, and they appear to be a walking GPS. It makes it a little embarrassing for those who are relatively new to Idaho to have to ask where things are when everyone else seems to know. Without asking or exploring, it is tough to know where you are going sooner than later, but what is better? To ask, or to get lost? 

Not Owning a Gun in the Gem State

If you are antigun, you live in the wrong state. Perhaps you weren't aware how pro-gun Idaho was, and have been telling others that guns are bad or that you don't own one. Once it was brought to your attention that Idaho loves its guns, you may have been a little embarrassed and wished you lived elsewhere or had stayed quiet. If only you had a good friend or coworker who would have told you sooner.

It is common when people visit the Magic Valley to ask, 'What is that smell?' Locals have gotten used to it and some are even offended when a person asks. It is better to Google it or to keep your mouth shut, as most do not like having to explain what it is. There are often many different answers, but instead of looking silly or irritating someone, it is better to know sooner than later. 

Telling You What Finger Steaks Are

Finger steaks are a food that many in the area enjoy, and many restaurants serve them. They aren't common everywhere and if you are not from Idaho, you may have never had them or even have heard of them. The look on a waitress's face when asked what finger steaks are, will have anyone wishing they hadn't asked. If only you had known sooner, you wouldn't feel like an idiot for not knowing. It is best to order them and find out for yourself than to ask a local. 

Knowing to Order Fry Sauce

Similar to finger steaks, if you are new to Idaho you may not be aware how important fry sauce is to meals, especially when out eating. If someone asks if you want fry sauce, the answer is always yes, even if you do not use it. Do not ever say that you don't like it or don't want any or you may be banned not only from the restaurant but from the state as well. The first few times you get looks, you'll have wished someone had told you about fry sauce sooner.
