Newest and Most Unique Football Trophy Comes to the Gem State
College football is a big deal in the state of Idaho. While not everyone watches it or follows it, Boise State has become a household brand that is what most people think of when they think of the Gem State. If you ask most people what they know about Idaho, they are likely to say two things, that is potatoes and Boise State football. The season is fast approaching and will be here before you know it, but what some may not realize is that there are college football programs in Idaho as well. Two of the colleges in Idaho will reignite their college football rivalry this fall, and they will do so with a new and unique trophy.
Potato State Trophy in College Football
The Idaho Vandals and the Idaho State Bengals will reignite their college football rivalry this coming season, and in doing so will introduce a new trophy that is fitting to the state and will rank as one of the most unique trophies in all of sports. The trophy is called the Potato State Trophy and will go to the team that wins the game each season, with the winning team to home the trophy until the following season, where it will be on the line once again. College football has some bizarre trophies, but playing for a giant potato has to be up there.
Details About the Potato State Trophy
The new trophy will consist of a 19.4-pound hand-carved potato, made of North Idaho Douglas fir, and a metal cutout of the Gem State engraved with both school's logos. The new trophy will replace the Battle of the Domes Trophy which was retired at the end of the 2022 season. Idaho leads the all-time series between the two schools 32-13, but the record is 3-2 over the last 5 seasons. Idaho won the most recent matchup, defeating Idaho State 63-21 last season.
