Is It Ok to Still Have Christmas Lights Up in the Gem State?
Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year, and many are sad when it is over. For the days and weeks that follow, many are taking ornaments off the tree, taking their trees down, putting away decorations, and taking down Christmas lights. Some take them down the next day, some wait until after the new year begins, and others let them stay up for a little longer. Christmas happened over a month ago, and there are plenty of houses in the Gem State that still have their lights on every night. Is it acceptable for homes to still have Christmas lights on in Idaho as January comes to a close?
Christmas Lights in January in Idaho
Any Idaho resident knows that Mother Nature often decides when Christmas lights come down. If there is a blizzard, single-digit temperatures, or high winds, nobody wants to be outside taking down Christmas decorations. This winter has not been that way, though, and has been surprisingly pleasant. Yes, there have been cold days and some wind, but nothing too extreme. There have been plenty of opportunities and a few weeks to get out and take down the Christmas lights, the blowups, and anything else that represents the holiday season. Most don't mind leaving them up for a couple of weeks to hold on to the happiest times of the year, and to admire the work it took to put the lights up, but with the holiday now having happened over a month ago, it might be time to take them down.
When Should Christmas Lights Come Down in Idaho?
There is no exact timeline on when Christmas lights should come down, and honestly, it is ok to leave them on your home all year. Many homes have lights around their houses these days that change color depending on the time of the year, the next holiday, or whatever the homeowner's favorite color is. Leaving lights up and on isn't the issue, but when you have decorations with Santa, elves, and ones exclusively tied to Christmas, it might be time to take those down, with the calendar being closer to Valentine's Day than it is to the most recent Christmas. We all enjoy the holiday season, but the lights have run their course and should be turned off or taken down, unless they are just colored lights on the home.

This is only one person's opinion, but why not save on your electric bill when the holiday season is gone? Do you think it is still acceptable for Christmas lights to be on? Do you like that they add color to the town, or are you ready to see no more holiday lights as we get close to February in Idaho?
