Signatures Can Stop Xmas Theft Says Twin Falls Sheriff’s Office
It's that time of year again when packages sitting on porches become targets for thieves. The Twin Falls Sheriff's Office recently reminded area residents that the Christmas holiday will result in a rise in crime.
As the Christmas holiday gets closer a large number of Idahoans are expecting packages to arrive in the coming days. The Twin Falls Sheriff's Office recently took to its Facebook page to offer tips on how to prevent porch pirating, which is the act of stealing deliveries that sit out in the open for an extended period of time.
In the United States, porch pirate thefts account for an average of $150.00 per victim, according to information shared by finder.com. Furthermore, approximately 15% of Americans have reported falling victim to porch pirates.
Here are some things you can do to decrease your chances of having online orders stolen from your porch, according to the Twin Falls Sheriff's Office:
*Request that your postal carrier only leave your package if someone is home to sign for it.
*Install a door camera or surveillance system near where deliveries are normally left by postal carriers.
*Request packages be delivered to your workplace address if possible.
* Arrange a specific time for delivery (if possible) that allows you to be home when your package arrives.
*Use delivery apps to track your package.
*Request your postal carrier leave the package in an area on the property that is less visible from the street.
These are great tips provided by the Twin Falls Sheriff's Office to safeguard your online orders. Happy Holidays Magic Valley, and good luck with those deliveries.
