Everyone has had to pay rent at some time in their life. Perhaps it was an apartment, a home you rented, or maybe your parents made you pay rent to teach you responsibility. Renting does have its benefits. You can call maintenance instead of having to fix problems yourself, which can save you money when it comes to fixing these problems. If you don't like something, you can move much more easily than if you own it, but it also comes with some negative aspects. Your money isn't going towards any type of investment, you don't have the freedom you want to make the home truly yours, and having to answer to a landlord can be tough as well. When it comes to dealing with landlords, how bad are the ones in Idaho compared to those in other states?

Having a good landlord can make renting an enjoyable experience, and having a bad landlord can lead to many headaches, an unhappy living environment, and perhaps a lawsuit or two as well. A recent study by ovidlife.com revealed the states with the best and worst landlords in the country. According to the list, Maryland has the best landlords, followed by Hawaii, and Maine being third. The state with the worst landlords is Arizona, with Washington being second worst, and Georgia rounding out the bottom three. Where does Idaho rank? According to the study, Idaho has the fourth-best landlords in the country, and it has the best communication between landlords and renters in the entire country, and has one of the lowest percentages of complaints filed against landlords. Nearly half of renters have gotten back their security deposit in Idaho, and nearly half have had their landlords go above and beyond. Despite all of this positivity, over 70 percent of renters moved because of a rent hike, and over 66 percent moved away because of their landlord.

What People Think of Their Landlords

With Idaho having mostly positive outlooks on its landlords, what do renters really think of the people taking their money? Nearly 1 in 4 Americans rate their landlords as poor or very poor. While there are many reasons to move out of a place you are renting, 43 percent say they have moved directly because of the landlord. With prices going up everywhere these days, it's not surprising to see that 1 in 3 renters have moved due to an unexplained increase in rent. When it comes to having maintenance problems fixed, 1 in 5 renters say it took longer than a week to get a response, whereas in Idaho, 60 percent reply in 3 days or less.
