Finding that certain, special someone is something most of us seek in life, but doing so can often be hard work and exhausting. There is figuring out how to meet the person, finding out if you have common interests, and then working up the nerves to ask them out on a date, or hope they ask you. It can be stressful and can drive up anxiety. First dates are often some of the best memories when couples look back on their relationships, but at the moment, they are under a lot of pressure. Due to the pressure of first dates, many couples decide to have a drink to help them relax and help the conversation flow better. A new dating trend in California has proven to be successful with the younger generation and might be worth a try on your next date.

While having a drink can help calm the nerves and make things a little easier, according to a recent survey on datingnews.com, millennials, and Gen Zers have found that dry dating is more successful than drinking on a date. According to the survey, 54 percent of millennials and Gen Zers have said they tried dry dating, and an amazing 81 percent said they have gone on a dry date already in 2024. When asked why they don't drink on dates, the most common answers were the type of date, health reasons, and the cost of alcohol. Nearly 73 percent said they have saved money, with the average person saving $88 per month by skipping the drinks on dates.

With so many great restaurants and bars in California, it is tough to not take a date to one and get a drink, but surprisingly, 65 percent of those surveyed, claimed to prefer a date with no alcohol. Among those that have not tried dry dating, 75 percent said they are open to it. One of the main reasons for the shift in dating is that 87 percent said they believe without alcohol on a date they are forming better romantic relationships. In fact, 68 percent claimed that their connection with their date was stronger, because alcohol was not involved. Not everyone agrees with this concept, as 25 percent think no alcohol makes a first date harder, and 16 percent said they need the alcohol to get through a first date.
