Will Twin Falls Finally See Snow This Weekend?
The greater Twin Falls area has experienced a series of false starts to winter this season, with warmer-than-usual temperatures often bringing more rain than snow to the valley. While the higher elevations have received snow, it hasn’t quite made its way down to the Magic Valley, leaving Twin Falls residents waiting for a proper winter storm… or thrilled about easy winter commutes.
A Brief Snowfall
Even when snow has made an appearance in the valley, it’s been brief, with flurries that lasted no more than a day or two before melting away. The slow start to winter has also had an impact on local ski resorts. For example, Magic Mountain, which had initially planned to open earlier in the month, had to delay its opening to December 28, 2024, due to a lack of early-season snow.
Weekend Forecast
UPDATE: You know what they say about Idaho: Don't like the weather? Just wait a minute. The latest forecast as of Friday morning predicts a slight chance of snow flurries Friday night and no snow for Saturday.
Looking ahead to this weekend, there is a possibility of flurries in the Magic Valley, but the snowfall is expected to be minimal. According to the National Weather Service, we could see some flurries starting Friday evening, with cloudy skies and an overnight low of around 19°F. The chance for snow persists into Saturday morning, with a 30% likelihood of flurries before they clear out by 11 a.m. From there, the skies are expected to be sunny for the rest of the weekend.
Warmer Week Ahead
The forecast from KMVT echoes this, suggesting an even warmer week ahead, with temperatures climbing into the low 40s by mid-week along with more sunshine.
Snow in Higher Elevations
While the valley may be lacking in snow, the good news for winter sports enthusiasts is that the higher elevations have continued to receive consistent snowfall. All local ski resorts remain open, offering a chance for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy the slopes.
