Dog South of Idaho in Utah Goes Missing: Found 1,000 Miles Away in Texas
A dog that went missing about 2 weeks ago in Utah was found in Texas.
That means this dog probably had a better Spring Break vacation adventure, and better stories, than you did.
Utah Dog Goes Missing: Found 1,000 Miles Away in Texas
This is a fantastic story about people caring for other people, people caring about other people’s pets, and the importance of registering and microchipping your fur babies.
According to online reports, the dog is named Huey and he’s a ‘stocky, sweet-faced Staffordshire Terrier.’ His owner is a single mom with three kids in Utah. Due to a financial need, she had a friend temporarily take care of Huey.
But Huey escaped about 2 weeks ago and was just found a few days ago in Texas. He was picked up as a stray in Collin County, Texas, and taken to a shelter. But the shelter was full, and Huey was set to be euthanized.

That’s where the importance of pet microchips comes in. Local Profile says staff were able to scan his chip and trace it back to his family in Utah.

While it doesn’t seem like it took much money for Huey to make the massive trek to Texas, getting him back to Utah would cost about $2,000. As mentioned before, his owner (the single mom with financial needs) wouldn’t have been able to cover that cost.
So, the good people of the world banded together and raised the money. Huey was reunited with his family earlier this week.

CBS News in Texas shared his story in a YouTube video:
Nobody seems certain about how Huey got to Texas. Some comments speculate that he may have been stolen and then escaped.
