Huge BBQ Chain with Locations in CA Closes Dozens of Restaurants in 2024

California is home to more of the chains’ BBQ locations than any other state except Texas.
Biggest BBQ Chain in US with Locations in CA Closes Dozens of Restaurants in 2024
If you don’t know someone who cooks an amazing slow-smoked BBQ at home, you have to order it from a restaurant, and for many people, that’s a little harder this year. Dickey’s Barbeque Pit closed almost 100 locations across the United States in their 2024 fiscal year but still has more than 350 still operating. 31 of those still open are in California which is more than any other state other than Texas where there are 115 Dickey’s restaurants.
Dickey’s BBQ isn’t just closing locations though, according to TheFW they opened 12 new locations.

What does this mean for fans of Dickey’s BBQ in California? The future is never certain, but hopefully, the California locations can stay strong. The chain has a history of closing numerous locations while opening new ones. Restaurant Business Online reports that in 2018 there were 113 closures for the chain restaurant and 72 new openings.
Reports don’t go into the details of which locations closed during the 2024 fiscal year (which ended in May for Dickey’s) but California locations have been surprised by closures in the past. One Dickey’s location in California was placed for sale last year and the franchisee wasn’t told in advance.

The Fresno Bee covered a few surprise closures in their area in early 2019 and Yelp reviews can still be seen for many closed California locations. Many of the restaurants that are still open are active on social media sharing information on deals and pictures of delicious BBQ.
There is a website dedicated to tracking restaurant closures, and while the list for Dickey’s hasn’t been updated since 2017, you can see from the list that opening and closing locations are nothing new for the BBQ giant.
