Is Your Child Getting Too Much Sugar?
Sugar is hard to avoid, especially for children. My kids still have two huge buckets full of Easter candy that they collected from various Magic Valley Easter Egg Hunts.
I try to teach my kids to eat sugar in moderation, but this can be difficult. Like most people, we celebrate everything with food, often times with sugary foods.
So how much sugar is too much for children? According to The American Heart Association, children should only have 25 grams of added sugar a day. That equates to about 6 teaspoons.
To put this information into perspective, if you child drinks a 16oz. Starbucks kids smoothie, they are ingesting about 41 grams of sugar! That's almost double their daily intake. That's more sugar than an entire Twix candy bar. Typical candy bars have between 25 and 30 grams of sugar.
At the end of the day what you feed your kids is up to you. I would never tell anyone how to feed or parent their kids. But, knowing the facts never hurts.
