The days to Halloween are ticking down, and by now most have their costumes, are trunk-or-treating, eating candy they bought too soon, and decorating for the spooky season. For many, Halloween is one of the best nights of the year, and it isn't only the day, but the season that comes along with it. One of the best parts about Halloween is the candy, and as a parent, you enjoy watching your children go out and trick-or-treat, and miss the days when you were able to do it. It is always exciting to see how much they bring home, so you can also dive in and help them eat it. This year, it would be wise to expect less candy than in previous years in Idaho, and the reasoning shouldn't be that surprising.

Buying candy to hand out for Halloween can get a little pricey. Typically, a person handing out candy buys a big bag or two from the store. Depending on where you live, you may buy more or less, but the cost of candy this year has been noticeably more expensive than in the past. A big bag of candy used to cost $10, but the prices have gone up far beyond that. Depending on where you buy from and what kind of candy you get, some bags are selling for nearly $25, with smaller bags with less variety selling for nearly $20 and $15. Assuming a home needs two or three bags to make sure they have enough to hand out, this can add up fairly quickly and lead to some homes deciding not to hand out candy this year or running out quickly.

Halloween is Too Expensive in Idaho

With the cost of decorations, costumes, candy, and gas to drive around to all the events going on, Halloween has become more expensive than ever. The cost of living has risen as well, forcing many to make tough decisions, and perhaps Halloween is one of those things that needs to be cut to help pay the bills, buy food, and keep expenses in check. Don't be surprised as you take your children out this year if you notice fewer houses with lights on, less candy filling up buckets, and being a tad disappointed that your child doesn't have as much candy this year as in past years. If you attend enough trunk-or-treats throughout October, it should even out, but if relying on neighbors in town to fill buckets, your child might be a tad disappointed this year.

You would hope the cost of candy comes back down, but sadly, like many things in this world, it will only increase and will likely cost $30 per bag in the near future. As long as the cost of candy keeps going up, fewer and fewer people will be handing out candy, and soon, Halloween and trick-or-treating could fade. Prepare for less candy this year, and be surprised by your haul if you get more than expected.
