BOISE, Idaho (KLIX) This weekend, the Idaho National Guard will host an open house and air show for the first time in 20 years. Gowen Thunder is set for Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Boise airfield. Admission is free and open to the public, although there are VIP tickets available here. The United State Air Force Thunderbirds and the Royal Canadian Snowbirds will perform both days this weekend. Other attractions will include the many vehicles and equipment Soldiers and Airmen use for special training and missions. Food and other vendors will be on the base during the event. Because Gowen Field is a military installation, there are specific rules those visiting must follow:

These items are not allowed on base:

  • FIREARMS/WEAPONS
  • KNIVES
  • FIREWORKS
  • BRASS KNUCKLES
  • ALCOHOL
  • DRUGS
  • LARGE BACKPACKS
  • DRONES (prohibited on or near the installation)
  • COOLERS
  • PETS (Service animals specifically trained and certified to aid disabled persons are welcome)

But, you can bring these items:

  • Hand-held Cameras
  • Binoculars
  • Sunscreen
  • Ear protection
  • Walking shoes
  • Empty water containers are permitted
  • Folding chairs

Large crowds are expected so the National Guard will not be allowing people to drive and park on the base. Designated parking areas around Boise will allow people to park and ride shuttles for free to Gowen Field. Here is a map for parking:
