Despite What Many Think, The Gem State Isn’t That Religious
When many think of Idaho, they think of potatoes, mountains, blue turf, and the fact that the state is extremely religious. It is easy to see why, as it is a conservative state with many farmers, which are typically religious individuals, and is close to Salt Lake City, which is home to the Mormon community. There are many churches in Idaho, and it is easy to see why most think the Gem State is one of the most religious in the country, but according to a recent study, that isn't the case. While most would think Idaho would rank highly on a list of most religious states, the results might be a little shock on where Idaho falls, as well as where other states rank.
The Most and Least Religious States in the Country
When it comes to being religious, there are a few different things to take into account. SmileHub recently released a list ranking the most religious states in the country, and they ranked the states using a few categories, such as religious interest and places of worship, religious education and careers, and religion-affiliated organizations. Using this criteria, it was determined that Alabama is the most religious state in the country, with Virginia being second, and Texas rounding out the top three. At the other end of the spectrum, it was determined that Maine is surprisingly the least religious state in the country, with New Hampshire being the second least, and Nevada rounding out the bottom three.
Where Does Idaho Rank Among Most Religious States
While most assume Idaho is a religious state, according to this study, it doesn't even rank in the top half of the country. Idaho comes in on the list at 32. The Gem State ranks 19 in religious interest and places of worship, 44 in religious education and careers, and 40 in religion-affiliated organizations, putting it in the bottom 10 for two of the three categories. Despite what many may think, Idaho has plenty of work to do to become a more religious area.
Despite the rankings, religion is a personal journey, and it doesn't matter where you live, but it's about what you believe and how you live. If you would like to be in a more religious area, then perhaps Idaho isn't for you, but if you are happy with your beliefs, your faith, and your church family, then the rankings shouldn't bother you that much.
