Idaho Is Falling Behind in Cancer Research in 2025
Cancer is a nasty disease. The word alone makes people shiver, and hearing someone you know is diagnosed, or hearing you have it, instantly brings tears and emotions. Odds are you know someone who has fought cancer, and the odds are also high you know someone who has lost that fight. If you are lucky enough to be one of the few that doesn't know anyone though, you probably know someone that has been around someone else with it. Despite the advancement in medicine, and more people surviving, cancer is still winning far too many of these battles, and that is why cancer research is so important. When it comes to fighting cancer and helping in that research, Idaho is dropping the ball and needs to step up in helping fight this nasty disease.
Best and Worst States for Cancer Research
Cancer research isn't cheap and despite all the money put into research through the years, more is needed to help find an end to cancer. A recent study was released by SmileHub, ranking the states from best to worst when it comes to helping in cancer research, and they used categories such as research funding and resources, research output and impact, and healthcare infrastructure and support to do so. Using these criteria, it was determined that Massachusetts is the best state for cancer research, with New York being number two, and California being number three. The worst state when it comes to cancer research is Mississippi, with Oklahoma being the second worst, and Alaska rounding out the bottom three.
Cancer Research in Idaho
The good news is that you will notice Idaho is not among the three worst states, but Idaho does rank in the bottom ten, coming in as the tenth worst state. Idaho is 45 out of 50 in funding and resources, 26 in output and impact, and 42 in healthcare infrastructure and support. When you look at the states at the top of the list, Idaho lacks the population they do, which means that the state lacks as much money as those states have. Fewer people equals less funding and fewer resources, but it doesn't stop cancer from happening in the Gem State and taking lives.
It doesn't matter where you live or who you are, cancer knows no boundaries. It is important to help in the research of this disease to help continue to fight it and hopefully to one day put an end to it. There are multiple organizations that you can donate to or places you can volunteer to help those fighting against cancer if you don't have the means or funds to donate money.
