The Golden State is a More Religious State Than Most Think
Religion is what this country was founded on, but over time religion has seemed to fade. There are still parts of the country where it is a big part of their culture, but for the younger generations, it appears to be less of a priority than previous generations. There are certain states in this country that are known to be more religious than others, but when it comes to California, a state not known the be religious, how do they rank and compare to other states in the United States?
The Most and Least Religious States in the Country
For those thinking that California is one of the most unreligious states in the country, you might be surprised to find out that isn't the case. SmileHub recently released a list ranking the states from most religious to least religious and did so using a few categories, such as religious interest and places of worship, religious education and careers, and religion-affiliated organizations. Using this criteria, it was determined that Alabama is the most religious state in the county, with Virginia being second, and Texas coming in at third. The least religious state according to the study is Maine, with New Hampshire being the second least religious, and Nevada rounding out the top three.
Where Does California Rank Among Most Religious States?
California missed out on the top ten, but according to the list comes in at number 12 for most religious states, which is likely higher than most anticipated. The Golden State ranks 18 in religious interest and places of worship, 29 in religious education and careers, and 2 in religion-affiliated organizations. California is only behind Texas when it comes to faith and religious support charities in the entire country. Despite not being a conservative state or in the Bible Belt, California is pretty religious.
