When it comes to animals, some states do a better job than others protecting them, while others don't have as many laws and regulations. Smile Hub recently released a list ranking the best and worst states for animals and did so using categories such as pet ownership rank, animal protection rank, and animal wellness rank. Using these criteria, it was determined that Colorado is the best state for animals, with Oregon coming in as the second best and Nebraska rounding out the top three. The worst state for animals is Alabama, with Hawaii being the second worst, and Maryland rounding out the bottom three.

When it comes to Idaho, is it a good place for animals, or with all the hunting, stray cats, and road kill, is it a bad state? According to the list, Idaho is a great state for animals, coming in at number eight. Idaho is number three in pet ownership, is number 27 in animal protection, and is 19 in animal wellness. It is tough to find a resident in Idaho who doesn't own a pet in some form. Nearly everyone has a dog or a cat, with many also having horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and many more farm animals. Idaho comes in at number five in the highest share of pet-owning households, backing the statement above.

While Idaho may have many stray animals, it also has many beloved pets. While the state does have plenty of hunting, most animals are protected throughout parts of the year, and some are protected entirely.
