Here’s Why There’s a Barrier Across Canyon Rim Road Walking Path
We did some checking with the City of Twin Falls to find out why there's a barrier across the walking/bike path at Canyon Rim Road.
It's especially difficult for parents towing bike trailers to circumvent the barriers.
A few days ago, I noticed some chatter on social media talking about the path at Canyon Rim Road. Some of you were noticing that it was difficult to access the path because of the chain across the entrance. If you're walking, it's easy enough to step over but if you're on a bike, it's a bit harder. It's especially difficult for parents towing bike trailers to circumvent the barriers.
Josh Palmer with the City of Twin Falls told us that the current barrier is a temporary measure to discourage motorized vehicles from accessing the former road, which is now a walking path.
We previously only posted ‘No Vehicle’ signs but individuals still drove on the trail — and in some cases private property. The barriers and stepped-up enforcement are temporary measures... - Josh Palmer, Twin Falls PIO
People who frequent the trail claim that prior to the current barrier, orange barrels had been placed at the entrance only to be moved aside... presumably by those attempting to access the road by motorized vehicles.
Mr. Palmer tells us that permanent barriers will be installed once the path is completed. Also, city vehicles still use the path to access the pressurized irrigation, which is why there's a chain across the barriers with a lock.
If you enter to the right of the concrete barriers, there's a wider spot you can get through that makes it a little easier to access the path.
